Our History Kentec began in 1951 as Better Packages, Inc. The company was started by the Albert Family, selling packaging and shipping room supplies. In 1957, Better Packaging was appointed the exclusive distributor for Senco Products in Georgia, Alabama and most of Tennessee. The name was then changed to Senco Southeast, Inc. George Kennedy, a co-founder of Senco Products, purchased Senco Southeast from the Albert's in January, 1966. As George Kennedy was looking for growth opportunities, he found that the mobile home industry was in its earliest beginning stages. Over the next five years, Senco Southeast became the dominant supplier to the southeast's mobile home manufacturers and increased annual sales by more than 500%. Senco Southeast continued to grow throughout Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, opening a number of sales and service centers and warehouses in the 1970's. In the early 1980's the Company began to refocus efforts to pursue the construction market by re-merchandising the sales and service centers to appeal to the residential contractor. More centers were opened around Atlanta, Mobile, Nashville and Birmingham. In an effort to better identify the marketing focus of the company, Senco Southeast was renamed Kentec, Inc. in 1984. Kentec entered the contractor equipment rental business in 1985 by purchasing DeKalb Tool Rental, later renamed A-OK Rental. In 1995, Kentec and Senco Products transitioned their long-standing exclusive relationship between the companies, making Kentec a non-exclusive Master Distributor for Senco. This change allowed Kentec to begin an aggressive growth program in both new markets and products. In the late 1990's and early 2000's, Kentec has continued to grow with the purchase of three Stone Mountain Power Tool Stores in Atlanta, GA, the acquisition of four Nicor sales and service centers in Florida, the opening of Carolina MegaTools Stores in Charlotte, the acquisition of Upstate Fasteners in Duncan, SC, the acquisition of First Coast Fasteners in Jacksonville, FL, and diversification into the market of MRO products. The past fifty years have seen Kentec grow from a tiny "Mom and Pop" operation to become one of the largest specialty tool and fasteners houses in the country. Today dedicated Kentec Associates serve over 10,000 customers in six states. Kentec has successfully built its business by focusing on the needs of the customer and building long term business relationships. Our commitment is to provide our customers on time delivery of the very best products and solutions at the very best price.
